A poem at the dawn
One point of
that great iceberg
has been broken
Friends ...
we should
break that completely
Even though
the highest point
of the world
is in Everest
It is we who should
form the
required quantum of
plainland for us
Why do we need within us
the iceberg
which although melts
is still solid
Though we are at it's
two different points
why should our figures
be shadows
As I break one point of it
You break the other point
At the plains
we will shake our hands firmly
and start the inner exchanges
Let the bird of peace
flutter it's wings and fly
Let our sight
meet face to face
and spread the joy
Is it worth saying
that this is life
Footnote: Brave new world? Coward new world?

I think of this poem with two characters, one that is exemplified by an iceberg and the other by a bird.
ReplyDeleteThe iceberg is a more ambiguous identity. A form though solid melts. The shape of this ice allows us to make many meanings...either solid or fluid. In this space the poet calls for action to create a new land. Where we are more eye to eye, ready for an open conversation. The iceberg is situated not just in the outside world but also inside ourselves. The iceberg is given a more pessimistic aura...the one that needs to either broken down or melted..a symbol for ego. But it is a bit puzzling as to why did the poet think of this in the morning? I wonder what provoked him?
The other, a cliche, a bird to illustrate freedom. Perhaps in the 80's, a Nehruvian metaphor for peace and secularisim was widely used to illustrate this notion. In eitherways..the bird exists..and the poet hopes for a more utopic society.
Dad's Version
A morning poem
That huge
ice block's
one edge
has already been broken.
Friends, we have to
break it fully.
Though the world's
highest point
is in the Everest,
How much ever
Plain lands we need,
Aren't we to create it?
Why, within us
even if it's melting
it remains strong.
At either ends
even if we are there
why should our figure
look like shadow?
I break one edge
you brake the other.
In the plain,
shaking hands firmly.
Let's start to interact
let them flutter and fly.
Our sights
meeting each other,
let happiness spread
Is it possible to tell
That this is life.
