The Poetry of Aathmaanaam - Destruction - அழிவு - Page 27

Aathmaanaam

Aathmaanaam's first poetry collection titled 'A line on the paper' proved a unique view that poetry is a crowd of words. This book is a device that helps to group the 'codes' that hit us. This anthology depicts a scape that helps us to stop and identify the loud voices arising from culture, at that very moment they get generated. News present as a black shadow, as distracted light and in many more forms and at many more places paint the poetic scape. Socio-cultural 'I's and the individual 'I' are deconstucted through these poems. This begins the era of a new language and way of expression in the world of poetry that could soon become a norm.

As introduced by Brammaraajan in the back cover of Aathmaanaam's poetry book titled 'Aathmaanaam poems' ...

I have tried to translate below the 'Reader Copy' and not the 'Author Copy' of Aathmaanaam's poems in a bid to introduce his work. You could call this as a sort of 'poem trafficking' if not an attempt towards truthful translation.

Destruction

Even if you destroy me
You cannot destroy my writing
Even if you destroy my writing
You cannot destroy it's sound
Even if you destroy my sound
You cannot destroy it's echo
Even if you destroy my echo
You cannot destroy it's world
Even if you destroy my world
You cannot destroy it's constellation of stars
Even if you destroy my constellation of stars
You cannot destroy their order
Even if you destroy my order
You cannot destroy their inner beauty
Even if you destroy my inner beauty
You cannot destroy me
Even if you destroy me
You cannot destroy me
Destruction is normal
Creation is nature

Footnote: Note the back and forth transformation between the 'thing' and the 'I' and the loop like structural arrangement of the 'code'.

Good job Nandha. Loop structure which Nandha says is good observation. Being a computer Engineer he is still into coding world.

  2. The word ‘ echo’ stands out to me in this poem. As the poem in itself seems to be an echo<> as it goes out, it seems to come back in <> Like a palindrome. The poem seems to evoke a sense of expansion and contraction. Breathing. Moving back and in. Looping. But all coming back into a single sense of ‘I’ or the ‘poet.’
There also seems to be an echo of multiplicity in this poem. The ‘I’ could be the oppressed ‘we’ who rise up despite authority. The poet also echo’s his most important promise through this poem, which is to be present despite destruction… as creation in itself is the echo of the poet.
